Gen Yamaguchi was born in Shizuoka prefecture. He studied with Koshiro Onchi and joined the Sosaku Hanga art movement. The artist contributed to the international print exhibitions in Ljubljana from 1956 and Lugano in 1958.

"Botan" (Peony). A tree peony is depicted in abstract environment.
Gen Yamaguch was one of the very important artists in the early Sosaku Hanga movement. Like his mentor, Koshiro Onchi, he made many experiments in subjects and printing techniques using the natural elements.

"Gen Yamaguchi" signed in pencil around the middle of the lower area, at the bottom left side of the inset of the flower (difficult to see).

Ca. 1959. The design was included in a portfolio, "Collection of Japan's Modern and Famed Print Art", in 1960.
