Masayuki Miyata 1926-1997
Masayuki Miyata was born 1926 in Tokyo. Although he never got any formal art training, his carreer was started in 1954 as he became a book designer for Charles E. Tuttle Co. He also helped to estublish Kodansha International publishing company.
During his early career, he used both woodblock print and kiri-e for his works. "Masakazu Kuwata" was the name used by him around 1954 - 1965.
After 1965, he concentrated on using kiri-e (paper cut) for his works. His extraordinary works were noticed by the famous autor Junichiro Tanizaki, who then asked Miyata to illustrate his novels. His master work, "Pieta of Japan" is displayed in the Modern Religious Art of Vatican Museum.
Even after his untimely passing in 1997, Miyata’s work has continued to be in international demand. His detailed biography is at www.miyatamasayuki-kiri-e.jp .

Masayuki Miyata was born with exceptional talent. Receiving no formal art training, his natural artistic ability led him into numerous awards and recognition all over the world.
