Tsuruya Kokei Auction, March 14, 2004
Dear friends of Tsuruya Kokei prints
Tsuruya Kokei is often compared to Sharaku. However
Kokei's prints are self-carved and self-printed,
limited editions, signed and numbered. And Kokei's
printing method was so elaborate that you will never
see any fakes in the market. Tsuruya Kokei retired
from printmaking in 2000 at the age of only 54 after
a personal tragedy, and vowed never to make any actor
portraits again. This auction offers 25 prints in
pristine condition out of a total of about 200 designs
that the artist had created during a span of roughly
25 years.
Bidding on these unique woodblock prints is now open
on www.artelino.com/auction/catalog.asp.
