Woodblock Prints by Hao Boyi, July 4, 2004
Dear friends of Chinese woodblock prints
Auction 113 offers 28 new woodblock prints by Hao Boyi with depictions of cranes, a
lucky symbol in China. All prints are signed, numbered and titled by the artist.
The edition size is 50. Bidding is open on www.artelino.com/auction/catalog.asp.
These new designs were created by Hao Boyi from 2001 to 2003. They demonstrate the
mature skill of the now 66 year old artist in showing more by drawing less.
This typically Chinese art tradition is called "Hiding the Scene", an expression
first used by Tang Zhiqie in a book about art from the Ming Dynasty.
Hao Boyi is the uncontested and respected figurehead among contemporary Chinese
printmakers. He is director of the China Artist Association. His works are in major
Chinese museums and in the collections of the London based Muban Foundation and of
the British Museum.
