Hanga Auction - December 12, 2004
Dear friends of Japanese hanga
Bidding for auction # 149 is open on www.artelino.com/auction/catalog.asp.
This collection comes with a story. A young art teacher
from the U.S.A. went on a journey to Japan in the 1930s
and came back with a small collection of Japanese prints -
mostly shin hanga. Many remind us of the prints from
the estate of the deceased collector and art dealer
Robert O. Muller (1911-2003) that we have auctioned
several times on artelino.
There are two more things that you should know
for this auction: All lots in this auction have a
flat reserve of USD50, which is pretty "off" for
many of the prints. We expect some to be hammered
at a multiple of the reserve.
Secondly, quite a few of the prints are attached to
an original folio paper (a few also to a kind of cardboard)
that you may know from sosaku hanga. They are glued on top
and we recommend to keep this original state. But if you
want to remove it, it should be no problem as it is water-soluble.
And last but not least, for more information on
this collection, please read the whole story on
www.artelino.com/articles/hanga.asp.
