Chinese Print Collection with works by Cheng Hsu, August 8, 2004
Dear friends of Chinese collection prints
Auction # 122 features reduction woodblock prints by Chinese printmaker
Cheng Hsu. Bidding is open on www.artelino.com/auction/catalog.asp.
This auction goes over a complete week and will end coming Sunday on
August 15 at 8:00 PM = 2:00 PM in New York.
The artistic importance of Cheng Hsu for the development of modern
Chinese printmaking is enormous. He created the technique of the
reduction woodblock print in the early 1980s in Yunan, the Southern
Chinese province. Unfortunately, the artist was forced to retire
from printmaking due to a severe illness. The availablilty of his
oeuvre in the art market is therefore limited and prints by
Cheng Hsu are rare and for Chinese prints not quite cheap.
You find an article about Cheng Hsu on

prints on www.artelino.com/articles/reduction-woodblock-print.asp
and an interesting overview on Chinese woodblock prints on
www.artelino.com/articles/chinese-woodblock-prints.asp by
German printmaker Eva Pietzcker, who studied the Chinese
woodblock printmaking techniques in a workshop in China.
