Chinese printmaker Zhu Rui, born 1970, demonstrates how he makes a woodblock print. This is our first video from China showing a contemporary artist at work. Especially interesting because you can see the specific Chinese tradition of printing which is slightly different from the Japanese method. BTW, compare this video with the images of Zhu Rui in his Studio!.

Zhou Lu is a typical artist of a contemporary Chinese art movement called cynical realism.

Zhang Biao, born 1971, received outstanding prizes at the 17th National Chinese Print Exhibition in Guiyang in 2007 and again at the 18th National Print Exhibition in autumn of 2008 in Shanghai for two art prints that show his little daughter "Fang Fang".

Li Haiping, born 1982, is a student of Wang Yuhui. In 2007 he graduated from Yunnan Fine Arts Academy. He became known with his awesome series 'lips' and 'hands'.

We present the young Chinese printmaker Dai Jia, born in 1985 in Jiangxi province. She was a student of Zhang Minjie. With her graduation in 2007 she has become well-known with a woodblock series depicting traditional Chinese vases with playing children.

"Hundred Views of China". The series was the result of a Sino-Japanese friendship project which lasted from 1980 to 1986. Finally 100 woodblock prints showing 100 famous places in China had been created by Chinese printmakers and published in Japan.
