Emperor Kazan was the 65th emperor of Japan and lived from 968-1008. He ruled only for two years from 984 to 986, unable to withstand the political power plays around him. He was tricked to abdicate by the powerful Fujiwara family. Kazan became a priest of the Gangyo temple, later named after him to Kazan temple. There he lead a rather worldy life and died at the age of 41 without ever regaining any political power.
