Shinagawa was the first of the famous stations of the Tokaido after the starting point in Edo (Tokyo) - a scenic spot at Tokyo bay. Today Shinagawa is a modern, populated city of ca. 300,000 inhabitants of the larger Tokyo area and there is not much left of the romantic views made immortal by Hiroshige's portrayal of the Tokaido stations.
