Ueno

Ueno is the name of a park in Tokyo. In 1868 it was the scene of a bloody battle of an imperial force equipped with modern guns against 2000 men defending the old shogunate order. The imperial force remained victorious in what was more a massacre than a battle. After the battle of Ueno the last Shogun finally resigned and the Japanese emperor took formally power with the beginning of the Meiji era.
