Kuchi-e were popular frontispiece illustrations for novels or magazines from around 1895 to 1915. They were usually folded three times and inserted in books and magazines. Kuchi-e were hand-made in traditional woodblock technique and were generally well done and sometimes even decorated with lavish printing features.
