shomen-zuri

Shomen-zuri ( also written shomenzuri ) is a polishing and pattern effect used for deluxe Japanese prints. The polishing effect is achieved by rubbing against the print from the front side of the print with a tool. It is often used on a black surface to make it shiny. The pattern effect is like embossing but the effected area has an imprinted pattern instead of a raised area.
