Cornelis van der Peet founded in 1953 his antiquarian bookshop in the Nieuwe Spiegelstraat 31-33. He specialized in books about non-European arts and due to his stay in Indonesia, books about that country became the main part of the firm. Soon he added China, Japan, South-East Asia and later Africa to the specialities.
