Masaharu AOYAMA  -  1893-1969

Masaharu (Seiji) Aoyama was born in Saitama prefecture. He had studied traditional ink painting at the Tokyo School of Fine Arts. A job at the Imperial Household Museum gave him a safe income. Aoyama participated in the official Teiten exhibitions with his ink paintings. As a printmaker he was close to the Sosaku Hanga art movement. Many of his woodblock prints were self-carved and self-printed. Others were published by Ishiyama. Favorite print subjects were images of birds.
