Keigetsu Matsubayashi was an important painter who exhibited at the government-sponsored art shows of Bunten and Nitten. He was an appointed member of Japan Art Academy and of the Art Committee of the Imperial Household. In 1959 he received the order of Cultural Merit. Prints by the artist were created according to Helen Merritt/Nanako Yamada shortly after 1900.
