Keika Kanashima belonged to the circle of Kyoto Sosaku and Shin Hanga artists. He had studied with Takeuchi Seiho, an artist who teached traditional Japanese painting style, but he was also strongly influenced by Western style. Kanashima's favorite print subjects were images of birds and flowers. In 1959 he became a member of the Japan Art Academy.
