Shoko UEMURA  -  1902 - 2001      

Shoko Uemura's mother was the famous bijin-ga artist, Shoen Uemura. He studied under Suisho Nishiyama while she studied art in Kyoto municipal art college. He studied in Seikosha, also. He showed his works in Teiten and Nitten. After he left Nitten in 1948, he established a new art group, "Sozo Bijutsu" (Creative Art) with several other artists. his favorite subject was kacho-ga which was based on the drawing strictly from the live models. He received "Bunka kunsho" (Order of Culture; the highest cultural and academic achievement awards) from the Japanese government in 1984.
