Seiji TOGO  -  1897-1978

Seiji TOGO was born in Kagoshima Prefecture in 1897. He graduated from the middle school of Aoyama Gakuin in 1914. Although he did not have a formal art education in Japan, he established his distinctively stylized, dreamy human figures after the extensive art study in France from 1916 to 1928. His painting style was very popular and he was elected as the president of Nika-kai. He was honored by several distinctive awards including the Order of Cultural Merit from French government. Seiji Togo Memorial Sompo Japan Museum of Art was opened in Tokyo, 1976, also.
