Kiyoka SAKURAI was born 1895 in Nagoya. He studied Japanese paintings under TANBA Gyokuho. He made a picture scroll which chronicled of the civil unrest stemmed from the protest against the price gouging of rice. After a while, he had worked for the Tokugawa Art Museum which housed artifacts collected by the Tokugawa Shogunate. He is famous for his copy work of the national treasure "Genji Monogatari E-maki" in Showa period.
