Gu YUAN  -  1919-1996      

Gu Yuan was born in Zhongshan in Guangdong province in 1919. He had studied art at Lu Xun Academy of Literature and Arts in Yunnan. Later Gu Yuan became the head of the woodblock printing department. He has been active in art education at various institutions including the Central Academy of Fine Arts where he served as the president. Gu Yuan was the executive director and the vice chairman of the Chinese Artists Association. He had visited India, Japan, Germany and other countries in 1956 to promote cultural activities between Communist China and the rest of the World. Two books have been published with his art works, "The Selected Works of Gu Yuan" and "The Woodblock Prints of Gu Yuan".
