Sosen was born in Edo, 1820. He became the 9th generation head of the Saruyamachi Kano family, served for the Tokugawa Shogunate. His two books on painters and their seals, Honcho Gaka Jimmei Jisho and Honcho Gaka Rakkan Impu, were note worthy.
