A Ge was born as a member of the Yi minority in Liangshan and since she was twelve years old she attended a minorities' class at SAFA. She began to work as a printmaker for the Sichuan branch of the CAA after graduating from school. At the first National Minorities Art Exhibition in 1981 she was awarded with her fist prize. After that she won other national pizes, for example the first prize at a national exhibition organized by the Ministry of Culture and the CAA.
