Kenzan Ogata was a painter, potter, calligrapher and master of the tea ceremony. His elder brother was Korin Ogata, the founder of the Rimpa School. His main activities were in ceramics, a field in which he acquired outstanding fame and success. Kenzan Ogata was born to a rich Kyoto merchant family. Later he moved to Edo (old name for Tokyo).
