Sotatsu TAWARAYA  -  fl. ca. 1600-1643      

Sotatsu Tawaraya was a famous painter and artist of the Rimpa School. Born as the son of a wealthy producer of fans in Noto Province, he was most of his life active in the Kyoto area, then the residence of the Japanese emperors. Sotatsu Tawaraya was known for using reduced designs in Chinese style, but lavish materials like gold. He was copied by generations of painters after him.
