Taikan Yokoyama was a prominent Japanese-style painter. His life covered 3 imperial eras (Meiji, Taishi, Showa). In 1931 he became member of the Imperial Fine Arts Academy and in 1937 he received the Order of Cultural Merit. In his style, the artist tried to revitalize Japanese-style painting by integrating elements of Western style and of Chinese ink-style painting.
