William Scott was born in Scotland. He studied at the Belfast College of Art and the royal Academy Schools of London. In the 1950s he was in New York. In 1958 William Scott exhibited at the Venice Biennale, in 1961 at the Sao Paolo Bienal and in 1972 the Tate Gallery had a major retrospective of his works. His style is from still life subjects with sparse lines and forms like pans, cups or pots to abstract. The artist was active in printmaking since the 1940s.
