Sadanobu III was born in Osaka as the son of Sadanobu II. This artist practized some kind of colorful shin hanga style. Best known are his prints showing images of maiko - young apprentice geishas. Sadanobu chose subjects of the traditional ukiyo-e and put them into a modern form of his own. Most prints were published by Uchida in Kyoto - most of them after world war II. Critics say that these prints were too much catered to the taste of the huge market of the American occupation forces. But successful art has always been targeted at the market. What is wrong with it?
