Abraham ORTELIUS - 1527-1598
Abraham Ortelius was born in Antwerpen where he spent his life as a cartographer. He became famous by publishing a very successful "World Atlas". It was so successful that it was published in 36 editions and in 7 languages (Latin, German, Dutch, French, Spanish, English and Italian). A tremendous success for a cartographer in the 16th century!
