He was born in St. Hubert in Belgium and died in Paris. Redouté worked as a painter, copper engraver and litograph. Famous are his works printed in stipple technique depicting lillies (1802-1816) and roses (1817-1824). At his time these works were so high in price that they could not be sold. The emperor Napoleon gave them away as a present.
