Kazue YAMAGISHI  -  1891 - 1984      Sosaku Hanga

Kazue Yamagishi is a typical exponent of the sosaku hanga movement. He had a high reputation as an excellent carver and often was asked to do the woodblock carving for other artists, among them Kyokata Kaburagi, Koshiro Onchi, Hiroshi Yoshida and Paul Jacoulet. In the 1920s he had been assigned to a three-year study travel in Europe by the Japanese Ministry of Education. Kazue Yamagishi was a founding member of the sosaku hanga artist association Nihon Hanga Kyokai.
