Twenty Chinese artists, many of their friends, several art agents and helpers in different provinces of China, and the staff of artelino is awaiting artelino's first Grand Auction of contemporary Chinese paintings, Feb 12-19, 2012, with great eagerness, curiosity and expectations.
It is finally done. The largest project every launched by artelino since its foundation in 2001, is entering into its final and decisive phase, the auction itself, running Feb 12-19, 2012. Will it be a success? Many helpers in China, myself here in beautiful Bavaria, Yorie, my helpers, and last but not least the 20 participating artists have worked hard, very hard since last November, 2011.
The initiative for this auction came form one artist in China. We had cooperated with him before for many years in the field of Chinese printmaking.
Many weeks of discussions followed. And finally it was about finding and selecting the 'right' artists for this first auction.
Out came 42 great paintings, all painted in oil on canvas, by 20 artists from different places and provinces in China. Most of them are young, nearly all of them do already have an exhibition record, some have even exhibited outside China and some are even a bit famous. But nonetheless, the reserves are from $1,500 until $7,500, overall very inexpensive in comparison to international art market prices or galleries in China.
Here are the 20 artists with links to their biographies, resumes.
Clients of artelino who know us from our regular auctions in Japanese prints should know that there are a few minor things different for this Chinese paintings auction.
In a nutshell:

I hope this auction will make many of my clients and last but not least a few Chinese artists happy. And if everybody is happy, I will go on a journey to China. It is time for me to get to know many Chinese artists in person, and to discover many more great talents and enjoy great, unique art works on the spot - for you, and for myself of course. By the way, after the financial crisis I have started to collect contemporary Chinese art paintings myself.
3:00 AM in the morning. I am feeling like in the song of the '19th Nervous Breakdown' by the Rolling Stones. I am trying to relax and get some sleep with Johann Sebastian Bach's concertos for 2 harpsichords, and a glass of red wine. I am dreaming of a 12 hours flight to Beijing and of exciting days in China.
