Artist Hokkei Totoya 1780-1850
Description The god of fortune, Daikoku with a large sack and the god of luck, Ebisu with his fishing rod. Various lucky symbols were depicted on the background.
Meiji A-copy surimono such as this one, were made mainly for exports. They were elaborately made with metallic pigments and embossing. For many of them, their originals no longer exist.
Signature Hokkei.
Dated Originally in Edo era. This is a Meiji A-copy published in early 1890s.
Medium/Technique Woodblock print.
Impression Excellent ... printed on a soft pliable Japanese paper, embossed.
Colors Excellent - very good ... metallic pigments oxidized.
Condition Very good ... paper slightly toned. Slightly soiled. Edges are lightly discolored.
