Description A decorative sheet from the calendar of 1965.
"Kata-zome" (Stencil-dyed method) was originated in Okinawa and has been used for many hundreds of years for binding-books, albums, sliding screens and many others.
Keisuke Serizawa was an enormously talented master of "Katazome" stencil-dyed printing and a leading member of "mingei" folk art movement. His distinctive designs and method were carried on by the two famous pupils, Sadao Watanabe and Yoshitoshi Mori. Keisuke Serizawa was awarded Living-cultural-treasure status by Japanese government in 1956. Later, two museums were built in honor of his works.
