Artist Unichi Hiratsuka 1895-1997
Description "Horyu-ji Mura Boshoku" (The Village of Horyu Temple in the Sunset Color).
Unichi Hiratsuka was the master of Sosaku Hanga movement. His stark compositions and rhythmical lines have attracted visitors of many renowned art collections and museums all aver the world, including Tokyo Museum of Modern Art, the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, the Metropolitan Museum in New York, the Rockefeller Foundation in New York, the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C. and the Freer Gallery.
He was awarded the Order of Cultural Merit by the Japanese government in 1970. In 1991, the Hiratsuka Unichi Print Museum was opened in Suzaka, Nagano Prefecture.
Signature "Hiratsuka Unichi" on the lower right margin. "Un-ichi Hiratsuka" signed in pencil on the left margin.
Seal "Hiratsuka" on the bottom right (difficult to see).
Dated 1942.
Medium/Technique Woodblock print.
Impression Very good.
Colors Excellent.
Condition Very good ... Lightly creased. Glue remnants, creases and wrinkles on the upper margin. Mounting residue discolorations on the four margin corners.
