"Mado" (Window) from the sosaku-hanga portfolio, "Hanga" Vol.5.
One cloud is seen in the bright sky through an open window. Using only a monochrome composition and a wood block, Shizuo Fujimori could express the pure and simple space. The numerous colors and shades in the real world were divided into only two possibilities. The exagerated simplification without unnecessary elements gives the strength and the depth to the picture. |
