Artist Hideo Takeda born 1948
Description From the acclaimed series, "Genpei", which chronicled the battles between the Minamoto clan (white flag) and the Taira clan (red flag) for the supremacy over Japan in 12th century.
Hideo Takeda is one of the best recognized contemporary Japanese artists for the comical, somewhat bizarre images. He considers himself more a cartoonist than a proper artist. He commented about his wide variety of styles, 'It is my belief that having no specific style is my own style".
"Yoshitsune no Saigo". The last moment of the celebrated Minamoto general Yoshitsune (1159-89). Although he was victorious in the battle of the Minamoto and the Heike clans, he was hunted by his brother Yoritomo. He commited suicide in 1189.
Signature "Hideo Takeda" signed in pencil on the lower margin.
Dated 1985 - 1999.
Medium/Technique Silkscreen.
Impression Excellent ... Printed on a thick, laid paper.

Note This entire series was shown in the British Museum Exhibition in 2009. In 1993, he had his solo-show, "Takeda Hideo and The Japanese Cartoon Tradition" at The British Museum.
