Hasui Kawase's colleague, Shinsui Ito, called him, "Lyrical Traveller". His landscapes, often evening or snowy scenes, evoke the beautiful memories in the past. The quiet, peaceful landscapes he so masterfully created impress the viewer's mind the qualities forever lost in the modern society.

Despite the crashing defeat in World War II, the Japanese artists have never lost their enthusiasm and creativity. The Shin Hanga and the Sosaku Hanga movements had already paved the clear ways for the young Japanese artists.
In the prestigious international print biennales in Lugano and Sao Paulo, the Japanese artists suddenly dominated the scene and took major awards by presenting the unique mixture of the Western art and the traditional Ukiyo-e and Nihon-ga painting.

At the first glance, Sosaku Hanga prints look unskilled and not refined. However, under the lack of sophisticated technique, one can see the great individualistic styles of the artists. .
This auction features works of Ono Tadashige. Although he was not overtly politically active, his dark harsh depiction of everyday life and landscape resembled the mood of the proletaliart movement and the modern city life. Many other great works that you have not seen elsewhere.
