If you like colors, you will most probably like the works of print artist Ay-O. The artist's trademark are prints in rainbow colors in all kinds of shapes and with an abundancy of creative imagery - sometimes with a subtle humor. Ay-o's preferred techniques are etching and silkscreen. The artist is sometimes nicknamed the 'rainbow painter'.

Chikanobu had studied under Tohohara Kunichika whose surname he took. Favorite subjects are historical scenes, female images and prints showing emperor and empress Meiji in an environment that documented the rapid progress in adopting Western technology and customs. Chikanobu had adopted some Western styles and techniques, but his subjects were rather retrograde.

Eiichi Kotozuka was born in Osaka and studied at Kyoto City Specialist School of Painting. He made several series with famous landmarks in the Kyoto area and flower prints. Publishers were Unsodo and Uchida from Kyoto. In 1948 he was among the founders of Koryokusha company with Tomikichiro Tokuriki, Kamei Tobei and Takahashi Tasaburo. Koryokusha was founded to support Sosaku Hanga prints with money earned by the Shin Hanga print activities of Tokuriki Tomikichiro.

Eisen Tomioka was born in Nagano prefecture under the name of Hidetaro. He went to Tokyo to study drafting and was employed by the army as a civilian. Later he resigned from the army and became a full time illustrator. Most of his works were illustrations for newspapers, journals and books - called kuchi-e.

Fumio Kitaoka was born in Tokyo. He studied at the Tokyo School of Fine Arts and as an experienced artist after World War II in Paris at the Ecole Nationale des Beaux Arts Francaise from 1955-1956. In the 1960s, he received scholarship and taught art in the USA. Fumio Kitaoka exhibited in international biennales in Asia, America and Europe. During his late years colorful landscapes are typical for him. In spite of his age Fumio Kitaoka has exhibited regularly in the prestigious CWAJ print shows in Tokyo - in 2005 it was his 46th participation out of 50 shows altogether!

Goyo Hashiguchi was born as the grandson of a samurai in Kagoshima City in the province of Kyushu. He had studied Western art at the Tokyo Academy of Fine Arts. Goyo Hashiguchi was extremely gifted and graduated as best student. In 1915 he produced his first original Shin Hanga print - Woman at the bath. It was published by Watanabe. Unfortunately Goyo Hashiguchi died at the age of 41 of meningitis. Before his death, Goyo Hashiguchi had created and published another thirteen prints under his own supervision. After his death seven more prints were published by his heirs.

Hajime Namiki had originally studied the art of sculpter under Shigeru Ogura. Today he is better known by his woodblock prints which he began to create at the end of the 1970s. And among his woodblock designs, the intricate images of trees are the collectors' favorites. Art works by Hajime Namiki are in the White House and in major museum collections.

Harumi Tateishi was a pupil of the great master Ito Shinsui. In Japan he is well known for paintings and prints of bijin (beautiful women) in Shin Hanga style. Works of the artist are shown in Tateishi Harumi Commemorative Museum and the Saga Prefecture Museum.

Hiromitsu Nakazawa was born in Toyko. At the Tokyo School of Fine Arts he studied Western painting under Kuroda Seiki from 1896 to 1900. Famous is his image of a woman diver - Heroine Matsukaze - contributed to the Complete Collection of Chikamatsu in 1923. Hiromitsu Nakazawa received several honors and prizes after World War II.
