To print from wood, utilizing traditional Japanese methods handed down from a slower age...
A return to printing with the creation of his own unique style of woodblock art...

From England to Japan

Born in England, David attended Lincoln College of Art studying printing and design. Leaving his job as a letterpress printer he began a wandering trip through Europe and Asia arriving in Australia in 1968. First visiting Japan in 1971, he returned there in 1972 and discovered the world of woodblock prints. With the guidance of long-established printer Tomikichiro Tokuriki, of Kyoto, he began producing his own work in Nagoya. Trial and error gave much experience. In 1983 his first solo show opened in Okazaki, where he had moved after renovating an old farmhouse in the countryside.

Other successful exhibitions have followed and his aim now is to create prints that utilize the texture of the wood, the hand-made paper and the natural pigments as integral parts of the artwork.
