Zhang Yuping has specialized in subjects from Tibet and other remote and high altitude regions within the Peoples' Republic of China. The artist's emotional passion for Tibet is typical for many Han Chinese. A folkloristic land of vast plains, high mountains and a mysterious culture. Zhang Yuping's images look nearly surreal, like images from a different planet.

Zhang Yuping ws born in 1964 in Yunkou city, Liaoning Province. He is a member of the Artists Association of Liaoning Province, and a member of the Oil Painting Association of Beijing. In 1992, he did an advanced study at the Central Academy of Fine Arts.
Since 1992, he has been to Tibet several times to collect impressions, sketches and photographs for his art works. Apart from Tibet Zhang Yuping has visited the Pamirs Plateau in Xingjiang, Qinghai and Gangsu Province.
Since then, he has put his focus on describing the Tibetan people and landscape in a very realistic style of painting.
In recent years, his paintings have gradually become popular among Chinese as well as collectors from abroad. Prices for his paintings have grown quickly during the latest tww years. Usually he now sells the paintings while they are still on the easel.
