On this page we present 10 artists from Yunnan province in China that we began to introduce in our Chinese auctions in February of 2008. The southwestern province of China with more than 40 ethnic minority groups has developed into a leading art center for printmaking and painting. The fame of Yunnan artists has spread outside China, and the international art scene has created the term "Yunnan Art School" to characterize art objects coming from Yunnan. Bright colors and ethnic subjects are the most common bond of Yunnan artists.

Xie Jing - born 1986

Xie Jing was born in September 1986 in Jiajiang County, Sichuang Province. Currently, she is a senior student of Qujing Teacher's College majoring in printmaking. Her print works have participated in Qujing fine art works exhibition several times.

Wang Fuxiang - born 1974

Wang Fuxiang was born in 1974 in Yunnan Province. He graduated from the Fine Arts Department of Yunnan Art University in 1998. Now he is a member of Yunnan Artists' Association and works as a fine arts teacher of Qujing Teacher's College.

He is also engaged in creating Chinese paintings. His works have obtained the Excellence Awards of the Chinese National University Students' Paintings and Calligraphies Exhibition, the Excellence Awards of the Xi Beihong International Research Institute Paintings and Calligraphies National Exhibition, the Third Prize of the National Fine Arts University Students' Works Exhibition in 1998. His works were selected for the 9th Yunnan Fine Arts Works Exhibition, "Century. Folk of China" National Chinese Painting Exhibition, the Chinese Figure Painting Exhibition of Yunnan and the National Arts Exhibition of the 60th Anniversary of the Releasing of "May 23rd Talk".

Cheng Yide - born 1958

Cheng Yide was born in 1958 in Zhangyi County Yunnan Province. Now he is a member of Yunnan Artists' Association and the chairman of Zhangyi Artists' Association. He has engaged in Chinese traditional painting. In 1990, he had a chance to do further studies at the Central Academy of Fine Arts. He followed some famous Chinese painting artists in his studies and gradually formed his personal style.

He Zhongcang - born 1967

He Zhongcang was born in 1967 in Zhangyi County Yunnan Province. He is a self-trained painter. Now he is the secretary general of Qujing Yuan Painting Institute. He is good in strong color figure painting and in flower-and-bird painting. His works have participated in national and provincial exhibitions many times and were widely collected by local government offices and private collectors.

Li Yihao - born 1972

Li Yihao was born in 1972 in Zhaotong City Yunnan Privonce. He graduated from Fine Arts Departant of Yunnan Art University in 1995, majoring in Chinese painting. Now he is a freelance artist in Qujing City. He founded the "Cyan and Blue Studio" in 2003 in Qujing. Li Yihao has dedicated himself to teach fine arts students and create works of fine arts. Currently the artist employs 6 artists. Most of their works are Chinese paintings and art prints.

Liu Yaofu - born 1984

Liu Yaofu was born in 1984 in Huize County, Yunnan Province. He graduated from Qujing Teacher's College in 2006, majoring in printmaking (Junior College). Now he is pursuing his undergraduate degree at Yunnan Art University.

Ling Yi - born 1954

Ling Yi, alias Muyi (Wooden Fish) was born in 1954 in Qujing City. Now he is a second-grade artist of China, director of Qujing Artists' Association and the director of Qujing Chinese Painting Committee.

Ling Yi engaged hinself in painting from the time when he was in his teens and taught himself by studying the works of previous masters. He is good in free style painting with profound proficiency in traditional skills.

Works by Ling Yi have been shown in many exhibitions at home and abroad. The artist won the Excellence Prizes of the "Heaven Palace Cup" and "Dragon Cup", Chinese national painting and calligraphy competitions, the Painting Saint Prize of "Painting Saint Cup" Chinese Painting and Calligraphy Competition and others. His works have been collected by the Palace Museum, Nangjing Museum, and were published in more than ten albums about painting.

Yue Yianweng - born 1971

Yue Yianweng, Yi Nationality, was born in 1971 in Luliang County, Yunnan Province. He graduated from Yunnan Art University Accessorial Middle School in 1991, and did his two years of advanced studies in the Chinese Figure Painting Advanced Research Program of the Chinese National Academy of Fine Arts from 2001 to 2003. Now he is a professional fine art cadre of the Luliang County Cultural Center, a professional artist of the Cuang Culture Calligraphy and Painting Institute, a member of Yunnan Artists' Association and a member of Qujing Artists Association.

Yue Yianweng's painting and calligraphy works have participated in national and provincial exhibitions many times. His Chinese painting "Clear Spring" was selected for the 11th Chinese National Group Star Prize Exhibition and won the Excellent Prize. His Chinese Painting "Eclogue" won the Silver Prize of the 4th Chinese Calligraphy and Painting Competition. His Chinese painting "Shepherd Song" won the Golden Prize of the 3th Contemporary Literature's Calligraphy and Painting Works Invitational Exhibition.
