Xue Li is a female artist from Yunnan's Hani nationality. She creates woodcut prints in black and white with semi-abstract images and with titles like "Mountain Goblin". She is obviously inspired by her own ethnic roots and the rich folk art tradition of Yunnan nationalities.
Xue Li, a resident artist of Qujing Printmaking Institute, was born in 1978. The young woman from the Hani nationality graduated from the Art Department of Yunnan Nationalities University in July 1999. Xue Li is a member of Yunnan Artists Association, a council member of Yunnan Artists Association and Secretary General of Qujing Artist Association.
The woodcuts by this young female artist in semi-abstract patterned style and kept in black and white were apparently affected by the folk art of Yunnan minority ethnic groups. It is only too natural for her as she is herself from the Hani minority group. Furthermore Xue Li had studied folk art as a major subject at the Art Department of Yunnan Nationalities University.
Xue Li's print works have been selected for many exhibitions and won prizes at national and provincial exhibitions. They have been collected by several museums - among them the Guangdong Art Gallery and the Anhui Art Gallery. And some of her art works went on an exhibition tour to several European countries. In the meantime also her literary works have been published in various newspaper, periodicals and magazines.
