The art of Ms. Xiong Xiqiu stands for a kind of fresh Chinese pop art - upbeat, flashy, full of color and a bit sassy, but very likeable. In our view she represents a life style expression of today's young Chinese city generation who strives for a life of individual happiness and a Western way of life. The series 'Cosmo Girl' made her famous in the Chinese art scene.

Miss Xiong Xiqiu was born in 1979 in Chongqing City. In 2002 she graduated from Sichuan Art Academy and continued her studies as a postgraduate student. Currently she teaches art at the normal university of Chongqing.
In spite of her young age Ms. Xiong Xiqiu has a remarkable history of exhibitions. Among others she was selected for the 17th National Print Exhibition of China in 2005 and one of her artworks was shown in the official catalog. In 2008 she exhibited at the 7th Shanghai Art Biennial in Shanghai.
The series Cosmo Girl was created between 2005 and 2007. The edition size varies from 5 to 30 copies. Next to the designs of Super Girl, two large scrolls exhibited in the 17th National Chinese Print Exhibition, this series made Ms. Xiong Xiqiu famous. Today she is among China's leading young artists and well represented by galleries in China including Hong Kong.
Cosmo Girl was created in silkscreen technique. The impressions are printed on a thick paper - all signed, dated, titled and numbered by the artist. To our knowledge the series is sold out and no longer available by the artist.
We do not know of any statement by the artist about the "Cosmo Girl" series. We see it - as all art works by Xiong Xiqiu know so far - as a kind of life-style expression of the young generation that grew up without any memories of the Mao Zedong era.
