Wang Zuocai is a leading painter and woodblock printmaker from Inner Mongolia. He has a succesful history of exhibitions and awards from important events in China. His prints are made in reduction woodblock technique and are kept in sober and earth-like colors. Works by Wang Zuocai are in the collections of many museums and galleries.

Career and Affiliations

Wang Zuocai is from the ethnic group of the Han - Chinas's largest ethnic group. However he was born and lives in Inner Mongolia.

He graduated from the Department of Fine Arts of Inner Mongolian University. Currently he is a member of China Artists Association, director of Inner Mongolian Artists' Association, vice-chairman of Tonglian City Artists' Association and a teacher of fine arts at Inner Mongolian Naiman Secondary School.

Wang Zuocai uses the reduction woodcut technique in combination with oil-based inks. His prints are usually kept in earthen colors - red, brown and yellow. The subjects show scenes from Mongolia's history, legends and a the life of the Mongolian nomads.

Exhibitions and Awards

  • 1992 - The print "Autumn Wind" won the bronze prize of the 11th China Print Exhibition.
  • 1994 - The print "Grasslands Wind" was selected to 12th China Print Exhibition. (China Print Exhibition takes place every one to two years and is the major art event for artists in China.)
  • 1996 - The print "Iron Horse and Autumn Wind" was selected for the 13th China Print Exhibition.
  • 1998 - The print "Meadow Wind" won the bronze prize of the 14th China Print Exhibition.
  • 1999 - The print "The Broncobuster" was selected for the ninth China Fine Arts Exhibition.
  • 2000 - The print "Joyful Matouqin" was selected for the 15th China Print Exhibition.
  • 2002 - The print "The Expert Bowman" was selected for the 16th China Print Exhibition.
  • 2004 - The print "Keeping Watch the Hometown" was selected for the tenth China Fine Arts Exhibition.
  • 2005 - The print "Spring of Sand Land" was selected for the 17th China Print Exhibition.
