Ms. Wang Ka represents the latest development in contemporary Chinese art, called 'Cartoon Style'. Read this article, read especially Wang Ka's artist statement (the best I have ever seen!), take a look at her paintings, and you will know exactly what this latest Chinese art movement is all about.
The images on this page are link-sensitive and take you to other articles or web sites in which you might be interested.
Wang Ka was born in 1979, in Hohhot City, Inner Mongolia. She graduated from Normal University of Inner Mongolia in 2002 with the bachelors degree. In 2006, she graduated from the Oil Painting department of Xian Fine Arts University and obtained the master degree.
Since 2006 she teaches at Normal University of Luoyang City, Henan Province. Then she rented a studio in Shangyun Artist Village near Beijing. Now she lives and works in Henan and Beijing.
Wang Ka's painting style and painting philosophy is typical for China's new contemporary art movement - the 'Cartoon Generation'. This latest movement followed the Political Pop style and Cynical Realism style.
Most of the artists of the 'Cartoon Generation' were born in the 1970s or later. Different from the generation of 'Political Pop' and 'Cynical Realism', this new generation of artists ignores emotions of idealism and social responsibility. Instead these young people pay more attention to the feelings of individuals and focus on daily life.
That's the best artist's statement I have ever read. No transcendental high hog wishy-washy. Instead, crystal-clear and straight forward. Typical for the Cartoon generation.
"I love painting. It has becomes the most important thing in my life. I do not know what else could make me happy other than painting. I am so happy when I paint, because it is simple."
"I love to paint little things from my daily life, especially girls, dolls and cats. Sometimes I think women are just like cats. Cats are only pursuing food and women are pursuing beauty."
