Teruhide Kato's beautiful woodblock prints can be enjoyed with a book about the artist's works titled "Kyoto Romance". The title characterizes his art prints perfectly. The serene images taken from Kyoto, the artist's residence, are like a big love romance with Kyoto and Japanese woodblock prints.

Teruhide Kato had studied at Kyoto Art College. But he became a kimono fashion designer. At the age of 50 he fulfilled himself a dream and became a woodblock printmaker. From kimono designer to woodblock printmaker - what sounds like a huge contrast for Americans or Europeans is seen different by Japanese. Kimono design is regarded as much as art as woodblock printmaking in Japan.
The breakthrough for the artist came in 1991 with a solo exhibition in New York by Cat Iron Gallery and the publication of the book Kyoto Romance.
Teruhide Kato's prints have unusual formats. Most are slim and tall with the height about double the width. We sold also a few the other way around - wider than high. The prints are published by Unsodo. The artist uses the Japanese woodblock technique. The prints are signed but not limited editions. In this way Teruhide Kato and the publisher follow the old Japanese tradition of ukiyo-e. The open edition allows the publisher to keep the price low. Teruhide Kato's woodblock prints are made for the common people.
