Golden Prize for Mr. Wen Mujiang

The woodcut Appearance No.2 won the golden prize of the 1st Yunnan International Print Exhibition.

The south-east province of Yunnan is together with Heilongjiang province a major center of printmaking activities. International art critics speak of the Yunnan Art School. Yunnan is said to be the cradle for the "invention" of the reduction woodblock printmaking technique.

Mr. Wen Mujiang was discovered by our Chinese art agent when he still created his large-sized woodblock prints on the balcony as his apartment was too small to work inside. After several spectacular success with print series like Red Tone and Shadow of Breeze, the young artist established his own art studio.

Wen Mujiang is represented in auction # 611 with one very rare print titled Love Songs from the collection of the late H.T. and with his latest creations from his new series Human Condition.

Although the design is quite different from the other images of the series The Faraway Sparrow Sounds, the artist understands it as part of this series. This woodcut from 1999 is very large and has an extremely small edition of only 6 pieces. This copy comes from the collection of the late H.T..

Human Condition

Wen Mujiang latest series is a bit more difficult to understand for non-Chinese people. The series shows men in front of a background of icons well-known to Chinese people from QQ (a Chinese online chat software).

Wen Mujiang fortunately gives us good descriptions of his art print creations. We put them in an articles titled Human Condition.

Mr. Zhu Rui's new print "Days of Clear Breeze and Light Clouds" will attend the contemporary art fair Art Beijing.

Mr. Zhu Rui works in woodblock technique. The following prints are presented in auction 611, starting September 10, 2008.

Tea Horse Road

This very large reduction woodblock print is out of print for quite some time. We are fortunate to offer this copy from the collection of the late H.T. The print was shown in 2005 in the 17. National Print Exhibition of China and was published on page 199 of the official catalog, ISBN 7-221-07186-1/J.384. afterwards this design was acquired for the collection of the Guizhou Art Museum. In 2006 this art work was selected for the international Print Exhibition in Pusan, Korea.

The print is very large - see the item description of auction # 611. And the edition is very small with only 17 copies.

The image shows a part of the famous silk road known as the "tea horse road". This part of the silk road served mainly for transporting Chinese tea and Tibetan horses, which gave the path its name.

You find more about this ancient road on the web site Ancient Tea Horse Road.
