For some people he was the greatest genius in visual arts of the twentieth century. For others he was a charlatan and a great public relations manager of his own art and person. In my view he was both.
The images on this page are link-sensitive and take you to other articles or web sites in which you might be interested.
For copyright reasons we cannot show you any art works by Pablo Picasso on this web site. Instead we show you images of art prints by Japanese-American printmaker Yuji Hiratsuka.
The art works of Yuji are witty, sophisticated and offer a plethora of new ideas. And the style of Yuji Hiratsuka has developed continuously over the years. Art prints by Yuji are in such prestigious museums like the British Museum and the Museum of Modern Arts in New York (Moma).
Quotations by famous personalities are supposed to be witty and attract attention. The quotes by Pablo Picasso reveal a serious painter. But they show also the clown in him and the Spanish macho who changed his female companions at least as often as his painting styles and who enjoyed watching the archaic slaughtering of animals in Spanish areana, commonly known as bull fights.
"There is no abstract art. You always have to begin with something. Afterwards you can remove all traces of reality."
"I don't say everything. But I paint everything."
"You expect me to tell you what art is? If I knew it, I would keep it for myself."
"If there is something to steal, I steal it."
"Bad artists copy. Good artists steal."
"As a child I could paint like Rapfael. But it took me years to learn to paint like a child."
"The world today doesn't make sense, so why should I paint pictures that do?"
"There are only two types of women - goddesses and doormats."
"You must not always believe what I say. Questions tempt you to tell lies, particularly when there is no answer."
