Mee Wong's Art

Wee Wong's art works look refreshing, bold and a bit naughty (just a bit). Young girls wearing nothing but a tiny slip, panda bears being hugged by sexy women. But none of Mee Wong's compositions shows the women's faces. The painting style reminds of comics and illustrations. These designs are a bit erotic, beautiful and have definitely a message. It is a bit of pop art, a bit of comics and a bit of Roy Lichtenstein. But at the same time it is very Chinese and very female.

Currently Ms. Mee Wong works as an artist and designer and is a visiting professor of Guangzhou Fine Arts Academy.

Interview with Ms. Mee Wong

The following is the translation of an excerpt of an interview of 'New Faces of China' with Ms. Mee Wong. Copyright Mee Wong. You find the interview and many illustrations by following the link at the end of this article.

Question by Sohu: Your artworks look very erotic. How is your style formed?
Mee Wong: In fact, many people think my artworks are erotic. But I did not mean to do so. At the beginning, when I worked for an audult colum of 'City Art'(a newspaper), it was an opportunity to draw such paintings. But I found it interesting during the creation. And when you love it, you will be passionate to create more such designs and artistic conceptions.
Question: Your artworks reflect your inner world?
Mee Wong: I think so. We cannot hide our feelings completely. As the saying goes: Dust from motion and sins from hearts.
Question: What do you love most?
Mee Wong: I am a fan of panda bears.

The rest of the interview was about her first solo exhibition on November 3rd, 2010, titled 'Day Dream' which was held at Tangning gallery in Guangzhou. Ms. Mee Wong expressed how important it was for her. In the past, the exhibitions she attended were group shows. And she hoped that she could start again painting as she stopped for some time because of this solo exhibition.
