Edutainment > Articles on Art > Yunnan Art School > Li Haiping - born 1982"Lucky lips are always kissing. When it comes to Chinese prints, we at artelino are a bit spoiled. That's for sure. Our art agent supplies us roughly once per month with selected, top art prints - either by leading Chinese printmakers and painters or by young, emerging artists. But what we received recently, blew our socks off. A series of large format woodblock prints by Li Haiping. The prints show images of lips and a second series shows hands with a small insect. We simply LOVE these prints. Everybody of the artelino staff is crazy for LIPS and HANDS. Artist's CareerMr. Li Haiping was born in Mojiang city of Yunnan province in 1982. In 2001 he finished his art studies at a senior high school associated with Yunnan Fine Art Academy. In 2007, Mr. Li Haiping finished his printmaking studies with Mr.Wang Yuhui, a leading printmaker at Yunnan Fine Art Academy. Technique and StyleThe series "Common Day and Hands were created in Chinese woodblock technique in combination with oil-based inks. The edition number is extremely small with just 8 copies. They are very large with an image size of ca. 61 by 80 cm = ca. 23 by 31 inches. Both series - "Hands" and "Common Day" - were created in 2007. Lips - Lips - LipsWe received a statement by the artist about his "Common Day" series. Is it the translation or is it the artist's degree of sophistication? We tried hard, but it did not make much sense for us. Not important. This series of "lips is so awesome, so witty and so well-made ... these images can speak out for themselves. OK - here is the artist's statement, edited by artelino with courage and desperation. "For my Common Day series I chose one part of the human body, the lips, as the background of the artwork to zoom in. I chose the lips because we cannot live without them. And I bring the lips in comparison to my life. Bringing real life and lips together, I create my existence in an unknown space. This is what I am looking for. I enjoy a simple life. This kind of life makes me happy. It is my deep desire out of my whole heart." Hands - Hands - HandsAnd here is the artist's explanation of his series "Hands" (edited by artelino): For this series I chose the human hand and insects as the theme. We create our life by the help of our hands. Hands are a symbol of doing work and creating things. With the depiction of the insects I want to point out that every form of life is capable to create new life, no matter how small it is. The art work gives us a tranquil moment. Control for the new life that we create is in our hands. As long as we understand and read our own life, we are creating your own lives. Exhibitions, Awards, Publications and CollectionsNone so far according to the information we received from China. But we thought we should leave a lot of empty space here so that there is enough room to fill this paragraph up with all the honors and laurels that this artist will soon receive. When you are in the business for Chinese art prints as long as we are, you get a feeling for emerging blockbuster artists. left empty by intention.
